ENGLISH WITH NEWS
Asteroid to Become Earth’s ‘Mini Moon’ for a Few Days!
This week, an asteroid will briefly become Earth's mini moon as it temporarily orbits our planet before continuing its journey through space. Named 2023 FW13, this space rock is estimated to be about 10-15 meters wide and was captured by Earth’s gravitational pull. However, its stay will be short-lived, as it will leave Earth's orbit after a few days. While temporary moons like this are not uncommon, they offer scientists unique opportunities to study objects that come near our planet.
Key Words:
Asteroid (n.) - A small rocky body orbiting the sun, typically found in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
Example: The asteroid 2023 FW13 will be Earth's temporary mini moon.
Orbit (n.) - The curved path of an object around a star, planet, or moon.
Example: The asteroid will follow a temporary orbit around Earth before drifting away.
Gravitational pull (n.) - The force by which a planet or other body draws objects toward its center.
Example: Earth's gravitational pull caused the asteroid to become a mini moon.
This exciting event gives us a closer glimpse at the dynamics of objects in our solar system. Although brief, this mini moon episode demonstrates how celestial bodies interact with Earth's gravity. You can read more about this event on NASA's website.
